Tigkalayo is a village about 40 minutes away from the Raymen base camp. Clean-up has been going on for over a month and about to be completed.

SEAFDEC-AQD not affected by Solar incident

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center- Aquaculture Development is located in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The station has
breeding stocks of milkfish and groupers that are decades-old, and is the site of a mariculture park. It was not affected by the Solar incident.

PLANTS SPUR NEW BUDS IN AFFECTED AREAS

5 weeks after the solar incident a team from the University of the Philippines visited Guimaras accompanied by our
Marketing Technical Services staff. During the visit, new buds were observed growing from mangroves and other plants. Experts say heavy clean
up of the area may cause more damage. Many environmentalists agree that it is best to leave nature to heal itself.

GUISI, DOLORES REVISITED

Guisi, Dolores takes pride in having the second oldest lighthouse, next to Aparri.
The place draws a lot of visitors specially during the weekends. After being cleaned for two and a half weeks,
the waters beckon once again.

OIL DEBRIS SHIPPED OUT OF GUIMARAS

Loaded with tons of oil spill debris, LCT Carmen left the Cabalagnan Wharf headed for Lugait, Misamis Oriental. Towed by a tug boat, the barge takes a
3-day voyage to Holcim, where the waste will be processed.

H2S LEVELS MEASURED

A team from the Environmental Management Bureau Region 7, Western Visayas measured H2S levels and took water samples from areas affected by the oil spill in Guimaras.
To check
environmental conditions, they used an instrument to measure H2S levels.
They also took water samples for further testing in the laboratory. Petron representatives witnessed the procedures.

SPILL BOOMS
Indigenous spill booms helped locals in stopping further contamination of cleaned up areas of the Guimaras shoreline.
PETRON RELIEF OPERATIONS
Petron is providing relief packs to every family in the affected areas. Each pack is filled with food items estimated to sustain a family of six to eight for two days. Petron has completed distribution of the family packs to all the affected families and will begin a new round of distribution.
CLEAN-UP
CREW GAINS NEW FRIENDS
Petron employees wasted no time in responding to the
Guimaras clean-up operations. Working with locals from dusk till dawn, the
experience enabled them to gain new friends. To the delight of employees, and
in spite of the language barrier, the locals demonstrated their appreciation to
their clean-up team leaders in many ways.
Marlo Manacap is an engineer at our Batangas
Terminal. As a clean-up team leader at San Antonio, Nueva Valencia, he has
daily interactions with the locals. He fondly remembers the tricycle driver who
shared some of his chicken stew lunch with him. That same driver also gave him
some coconuts at snack time. He also received fruits from others in the
community. These gestures make him feel his efforts are well appreciated.

APPEAL FOR UNITY AND SOBRIETY
Residents of Guimaras appeal for unity and sobriety
on the tragedy. "Nobody wants this to happen...this was an accident.. let's
stop blaming anyone but instead just help each other in restoring Guimaras",

SECRETARY DUQUE'S SITE VISIT
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque
said that he found our clean-up drive very systematic. However, "as a stop-gap
measure, it might be good to increase the number of workers who have lost their
basic source of livelihood", said Secretary Duque.

FROM THE GROUND
Guimaras barangay officials expressed satisfaction on
Petron's relief assistance . To date, more than 3,600 families in the affected
areas were given relief packs. Each pack consists of rice and assorted
canned goods.

SECRETARY CABRAL'S SITE VISIT
On August 24, 2006, Department of Social Welfare and
Development (DSWD) Secretary Esperanza I. Cabral visited the clean-up site at
Sitio Sumirib in Bgy. La Paz, Guimaras. The secretary suggested a tool to use
for the clean-up.
